2008 Tournament Format

This year, the tournament is a two-day team scramble (select shot) event with a blind draw determining the winning teams on each day. Foursomes may register as a group, or players may register individually and make foursome pairing requests. Players entering with no pairings request will be assigned to foursomes by the golf committee. Unless otherwise requested, foursomes will be different each day. The foursome scramble score will be assigned to each player. Players will then be placed on a blind draw team by the committee and cumulative scores will determine the three top prize winning teams from each course on each day (four separate competitions).

The Golf Courses:

During the two days of golf you will have the pleasure of playing two magnificent golf courses:

Hubbard Memorial Golf Course is located on the east side of the Hill AFB runway. It is a Championship golf course of 6972 yards from the championship tees. Kentucky Blue Grass fairways are lined with mature trees and the immaculate bent grass greens are fast and true. Amenities include a driving range, chipping and putting greens, men’s and lady’s locker rooms, a bar, and a full line pro shop. Nine holes of the Stanley W. Hadden designed course were completed in 1961 with the second nine completed the following year. The course record is 61.

Wolf Creek Resort, nestled at the foot of Powder Mountain and at the head of the Ogden Valley, is known throughout Utah for its breathtaking vistas, attentive service and beautiful design. At almost 7000 yards, Wolf Creek will challenge the most skilled golfer while providing an enjoyable round for the novice. The course features two distinct nines: the front nine openly roams out to a point overlooking Pineview Reservoir and the Ogden Valley with water on four of its holes. The back nine meanders through groves of oak and requires more thoughtful shot placement. Water is also a factor on the back nine as well.

Rules of Play

Rule #1:
Have Fun!!!

Tees:
Play will be from the white tees for men and the red tees for ladies.

Required Shots:
Two drives from each player must be used during each round of play.

Method of Play:
In a scramble or select shot tournament, the foursome captain determines which shot to play forward. All players tee off, the captain selects which shot to play and each player hits from that position. Players place their ball within three feet (nominally 5 iron length) of the selected position, no closer to the hole, to hit their next shot. If the selected shot is in the rough or a hazard each player must hit from the same lie, rough or hazard. Once on the green, players putt in the order designated by the captain. Each player putts from a position within 6 inches of the selected shot, no closer to the hole. Players should mark their ball if the putt is missed until another player makes the putt or until or their turn comes up again. The first ball in the hole determines the team score for that hole.

Mulligan Package:
Mulligans are included in the Fun Pass that is sold at the registration breakfast. The cost of a Fun Pass is $35 and includes prize holes and putting competition. The Fun Pass allows a player two Mulligans on each day. A Mulligan may be used only to replay your last stroke. Upon deciding to use a Mulligan, please declare your intention to your fellow players prior to hitting the shot. Mulligans may be used at any time. Mulligans used for tee shots are ineligible for prizes on designated prize holes.

Scorecards:
One player, not necessarily the foursome captain, will be designated (asterisk by the player’s name) as the official scorer for each foursome. When the round is complete, verify the score, sign the scorecard, and turn the card into a member of the tournament scoring committee at the course played. The scores are needed as soon as possible so that the committee can complete the blind draw and post the winning scores for the first day’s awards to be presented at the Mid-Course Correction Party on Thursday, and again on Friday for the second day awards at the Awards Banquet.

Provisional Balls:
After hitting an errant shot, if you feel it may be out of bounds or lost and you don’t choose to use a Mulligan, please refrain from hitting a provisional ball unless it could be a factor in foursome play. This will greatly speed up play.

Rulings:
USGA rules apply to all play except as modified herein. Should any questions arise about a ruling, play the original ball and play a provisional ball as well, record both scores for the hole affected and a ruling will be rendered by the rules committee after the round is completed. For long drive contests, balls must lie in the fairway of the long drive hole to be eligible for this competition.

On Speeding Up Play:
Keep play moving by making every effort to keep up with the group ahead of you. Foursome captains should select the ball to be played as expeditiously as possible and players should be ready to hit quickly following the player before them.

Handicaps:
There is no maximum handicap.

Tiebreakers:
Blind Draw team ties will be broken by a scorecard playoff beginning on the first hole of each course for that day.

Note:Due to insurance limitations, golf pros are not eligible for hole-in-one contests.
